Rug Cleaning in Irving Park

Collection and delivery in Irving Park are included. We take the rug back to the workshop, wash it properly, and bring it home.

The Houses

What Irving Park is built from

Large Colonial Revival, Georgian and Tudor Revival houses from the 1920s and 1930s along North Elm Street and Sunset Drive, set well back on deep lots with oak and hardwood floors running room to room.

Long-tenured owners, often the second or third family in the house. Rugs here are frequently inherited or bought once and kept, and they tend to live in rooms that are used for a few hours a week rather than every day.

Every Irving Park rug is washed at the workshop, not in the room.
What We Find Here

The Irving Park problem

The formal room is where the damage happens, precisely because nobody is in it. Two things run in parallel. First, the winter: gas heat pushed through a big 1920s house drops indoor relative humidity into the twenties for weeks at a stretch, and wool that dries that hard goes stiff and sheds at the fold lines. Second, clothes moths. Moth larvae will not stay in a rug that gets walked on and vacuumed, so they work the edges under a sideboard, the strip beneath a sofa, and the back half of a dining rug that never sees a foot. By the time bare foundation shows through, the grazing has usually been going for a season or two. Turning the rug and looking underneath twice a year finds it far earlier than waiting for it to become visible from standing height.

If that sounds like your rug, send the form and describe what you are seeing. We will tell you whether it needs the full treatment or not.
